Naples International Airport is one of the first airports in Italy to be equipped with a monitoring system for airport generated noise. The system – was created in order to monitor the acoustic pressure determined by flight operations in areas in the vicinity of airports – it allows verification of landing and takeoff routes and measurement of the noise produced on the ground with the objective of minimising the environmental effects. With implementation of the Naples airport (*) monitoring system, the following are now possible: · ascertainment of whether and which aircraft are compliant with specific noise abatement procedures through weekly analysis of the tracings; · measurement of noise produced by flight operations through the phonometer network. Continuous monitoring of acoustical effects generated by flight operations is possible by cross-referencing the information provided by these systems. (*) During aviation activities related to emergencies, public safety, rescue and civil defence operations, no monitoring is conducted.
